me:  so a fable is a story written to teach us a lesson - does anyone have any examples of fables

2nd graders:  the gingerbread man; tortoise and the hare; little boy who cried wolf

me:  ok - so in the gingerbread man - the gingerbread man was naughty and ended up getting eaten by a fox

2nd grade boy: so what you're saying is - if i'm naughty i'm going to be eaten by a fox?!  i'd rather just get spanked!!!
